Classic French Toast Bake

There are so many variations of French toast. From simple Wonder Bread dipped in an egg and sugar solution to peanut butter stuffed brioche crusted with crushed sweet cereal. French toast has evolved from the simple to the complex. I like meeting somewhere in the middle. My. Classic French Toast Bake is a make ahead dish for those weekend mornings where all you want to do is just relax. This dish is a no fuss, delicious masterpiece.
Classic French Toast Bake
Recipe makes 6 servings. Total time 9 hours (Prep: 8 hours/ Cook: 1 hour).

Ingredients
- 1 loaf Challah bread (stale bread is best)
- 2 cups milk
- 4 eggs
- 1/4 cup white sugar
- 1/4 cup light brown sugar
- 2 tbs butter
- 1tbs vanilla extract
- 1 tbs cinnamon
- 1 tbs pumpkin spice
Directions
- Cut the Challah loaf into 12 1-inch slices.
- Using your hand, smear the butter to evenly coat the baking dish. (This will prevent the bread from sticking during the baking process).
- Place the sliced bread in the greased baking dish. As the slices are being place stager each slice from left to right. (This allows more surface area to bake properly).
- To a large mixing bowl combine milk, eggs, white sugar, light brown sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and pumpkin spice. Mix thoroughly.
- Pour the mixture on top of the sliced bread, evenly coating each piece of bread.
- Cover the baking dish in saran wrap and place the dish in the fridge. Let the dish sit for at least 8 hours.
- Preheat the oven at 350°.
- Remove the saran wrap and place the baking dish in the oven for 1 hour. Remove from the oven and let stand for 15 minutes. Add powdered sugar to garnish.
